My dear Alexandrians,
It is with a heavy heart that I must announce officially that the novel coronavirus known as Covid-19 has reached our shores. Currently there has been one death and three confirmed cases at the Alexandra Clinic.
As a result, I am tightening my previous orders, made on March 16th.
The BCFerry service will now be suspended until at least April 30, 2020, in order to give our town and the rest of British Columbia time to recover, contain and control Covid-19.
In order to protect the residents of Alexandra, I am hereby ordering the closing of all non-essential businesses. Restaurants should offer only pick-up and deliveries at this time.
After consulting with health care professionals, I have come to the decision to close the Alexandra Academy for the foreseeable future. I will be in contact with Arthur VanBuren about the possibility of moving classes online if possible.
“Stay At Home” is still strongly recommended. I will not make it an order unless it appears that residents are ignoring common sense in regards to this virus. Practicing social distancing is our best hope of keeping infection rates on the island to the bare minimum.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation in keeping Alexandra healthy.
Adum Brate
Mayor
